     Working people tend to be people who don't have much time to take care of their health. Supplementation with a combination of vitamins and minerals is another option for those who work against time and are unable to consume complete nutrients, feel exhausted or tired from work. Daily multivitamin and mineral supplement can reduce the incidence of infection and infection-related absenteeism. And taking vitamins above the body’s requirement can prevent vitamin deficiency and strengthen the immune system. 

    The leading medical journal, Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) published information that all adults should take one tablet of multivitamin daily. Because the results of the study clearly indicated that it can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and osteoporosis. Moreover, the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), a nutrient research institute in the United States recommended that it is important to start with adequate amounts of essential vitamins and minerals to meet the basic nutritional needs, then add on other nutritional supplements as required by each individual. 

    In fact, some nutritional deficiencies can impair the immune system. The study was conducted at the two medical centers in North Carolina, the United States. A total of 158 participants were given a multivitamin and mineral supplement over a period of one year. A higher incidence of illness associated with infection was reported among those who did not receive vitamin and mineral supplements compare to those who received vitamin and mineral supplements (73 % vs. 43 %). And the absence from work in the group that did not receive vitamins and minerals was also higher compared to the vitamin and mineral supplement group (57% vs. 21%), which make a significant difference in the study findings. And the obvious one is in the group of patients with diabetes who often have low immunity (immunocompromised). It was found that up to 93% of infection were reported among patients with diabetes who do not receive vitamin and  mineral supplements, compared with only 17% infection in those who received vitamin and mineral supplements.    

     This conclusion indicates that a daily multivitamin and mineral supplement can significantly reduce the incidence of infection and the absence from work due to infection in both diabetic patients and those who did not receive vitamin and mineral supplements. The results of this study can be a guideline for taking care of the body for people who have to work hard every day, in order to have a chance to be healthy, ready to actively fight the hustle and bustle of everyday working life.
